“The good lawyer is not the man who has an eye to every side and angle of contingency, and qualifies all his qualifications, but who throws himself on your part so heartily, that he can get you out of a scrape.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson (1860)

I represent businesses and individuals in their legal disputes, lawsuits, and arbitration proceedings in the Chicago area.  After earning degrees at Northwestern and Georgetown, I began my career at Jenner & Block representing Fortune 500 companies in lawsuits in federal and state courts.  I spent the next ten years developing my litigation skills with some very fine lawyers and gaining valuable experience, including U.S. Supreme Court appeals and federal court trials.  In 1997, I opened my own law practice.

My goal is to deliver high-quality, aggressive litigation services to my clients in an efficient and sensible manner.  I have focused my practice on small to medium-sized businesses, partnerships, and entrepreneurs because I can provide them with counseling that is superior to the services they usually receive from law firms.  These types of clients can be an afterthought at large law firms, whose high rates force smaller cases down to the least experienced attorneys.  Many smaller law firms do not have litigators with the trial experience, strategy skills, and smarts necessary to provide top-shelf representation.

Over the years, I have handled more than twenty-five trials and arbitration hearings, over a dozen appeals, and many mediations and settlement conferences.  I have practiced extensively in the U.S. District Courts, U.S. Courts of Appeals, and the Chancery and Law Divisions in the Circuit Court of Cook County.  I have the experience and the skills necessary to realistically evaluate cases from the outset; formulate long-range strategies for resolving disputes; communicate those strategies to my clients in plain English; streamline a case so that the legal fees are proportionate to the amount at stake; and aggressively pursue cases to prompt, and usually positive, outcomes.
